Professionally Terry started in market research where he worked in media, (BBC and a newspaper). Latterly he was a Marketing Director with global responsibilities for a £1bn turnover company; a part-time lecturer at an MBA Business School and a marketing consultant before he took early retirement in 1999.

Terry is a qualified Coach and Referee and a former Chairman of the West Midlands Region (England).

Founder and director of Birmingham Bullets national league club from 1974 to 1986 and an EBBA National Executive Committee member from 1974 to 1983.

Terry is a Director with England Basketball where he also served as Chair from 2003 to 2008.

Terry has also been a member of the FIBA Commonwealth Commission since 2006
