When asked if he will join the Serbian national team, he said in the Spanish media: "I am not sure, but the likelihood is that I will not go."
Rakocevic was the leading scorer in the ACB and the Euroleague, and helped TAU Ceramica capture the Copa del Rey. At the end of a long, hard season with TAU, he says he aggravated an Achilles tendon injury.
"My wish to play for Serbia isn't an issue at all, but if my body can't hold all the new efforts, there won't be any other solution for me but to tell coach (Dusan) Ivkovic that I can't play at EuroBasket," he said.
Rakocevic has also sprung a big surprise by leaving TAU Ceramica for Turkish giants Efes Pilsen.
"This is a good opportunity and a good challenge for me. To arrive to a club as a star and join the ambition of a team that is a going to make a strong team for the Euroleague and continue to win the Turkish league. Besides, I will be closer to my family."
In September, the top six teams at the EuroBasket in Poland will qualify for the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey. If the Turks are in the top six, then the top seven will advance.
Serbia's national team has been in the news a lot this week with one of their rising stars, Novica Velickovic, deciding to join the Ettore Messina revolution at Real Madrid.
Velickovic, who will play for the Serbians at the EuroBasket, has signed a two-year deal with Messina's team.
