Harriett Yea - who gained valuable experience in the senior team last season - provided the main spark for the British team, finishing with 19 points and four rebounds, while Dominique Allen was the next highest scorer with eight points and as many boards. Mary Durojaye also pulled down eight rebounds, but once again the British side turned the ball over far too often - 33 to Hungary's 16. Bettina Bozoki finished with 14 for Hungary, while Tijana Krivacevic had eight rebounds and six assists.
Bozoki opened the scoring for Hungary, and although Tamzin Barroilhet levelled with a jump shot, Hungary quickly set the tone for the game by reeling off the next eight points.
Allen broke the run, but despite Yea draining a trey and a pair of free-throws, the Hungarians went into the first break with a 22-14 lead.
Allen trimmed that lead to six with the first score of the second period, and with Erica Woods and Durojaye also on target Britain remained in touch - trailing 29-20 at the midway stage of the quarter.
However, with only a Charlotte Stoddart free-throw to show for their effort in the final six minutes of the half, Britain saw Hungary go on an 8-1 run to close out the half with a 36-21 lead.
Lilla Horvath extended that lead to 15 with the opening points of the second half, before Yea trimmed the lead by scoring from downtown.
But the game gradually got away from the British side during the third period, and despite baskets from Yea Kelsey Bardsley, GB went into the final period trailing 52-33.
Hungary stretched that lead with the first basket of the fourth quarter, but if they thought the game was wrapped up, they were wrong as baskets from Woods and Allen followed by a pair of Barroilhet free-throws trimmed the margin to 17.
But a Krivacevic trey with 4:30 on the clock saw the lead grow to 20 again, forcing a timeout from Lara-Bercial.
The move worked to a limited extent as single free-throws from Allen and Durojaye cut the lead to 18, but despite Yea scoring the final six GB points of the game, it was too late to prevent another loss and Britain will now look to get off the mark against Portugal on Wednesday.
