Britain had some balanced scoring, led by Will Neighbour, as they had four players in double figures, but they never took advantage of having ten more field goal attempts than the Finns.
Neighbour finished with 18 points, seven rebounds, a block, a steal and an assist to lead his team. Andy Lawrence and Ben Mockford each added 15 points, with Patrick Nyeko finishing with ten and Tyronne Treasure eight. Nigel Van Oostrum finished with a team-high six assists and also pulled down four boards. Finland's Matias Ojala led all scoring with 19 points, while Matti Nuutinen led their rebounding with seven.
The game started well for the British side, with Neighbour draining a pair of free-throws to open the scoring, and a Colin Sing basket gave them a 4-3 lead inside the first minute.
That proved to be their final lead of the game as an Antti Kanervo trey launched a run of nine unanswered points to give Finland a 12-4 lead with 5:44 on the clock.
Lawrence broke the run with a three-pointer, but five Roopi Ahonen points in another 9-0 run saw the Finns' lead grow to 21-7 with two minutes remaining.
Britain did close the period strongly, with Nyeko dunking in the final minute, and a pair of Sing scores from the charity stripe cut the deficit to 24-17 at the first break.
GB had only a Neighbour score to show for their efforts in the first three minutes of the second period as the Finnish lead grew to 32-19.
Lawrence broke the run, and scores from Neighbour and Mockford kept Britain in touch, and a Jamell Anderson basket followed by a single Lawrence free-throw sent them into the locker room still trailing by seven, 45-38.
Finland scored the first two baskets of the second half to take the lead back out to double figures before a Lawrence trey and one-from-two foul shooting got Britain back into the game.
A Neighbour jump shot again took the deficit down to seven at the midway stage of the quarter, and a pair of charity shots from Nyeko followed by Neighbour's jump shot saw them move within three at 51-48.
Josh Rolls-Tyson and Neighbour both scored to keep GB's deficit at three points going into the final two minutes of the period only to see Finland score six unanswered points before Nyeko hit a buzzer-beating trey to make the score 61-55 at the final break.
Jesse Niemi drained a three to extend Finland's lead early in the fourth period but Britain still one last run left in them as a Treasure and-one launched an 8-3 run which cut the deficit to 67-63 at the midway stage of the quarter. Treasure also added jump-shot and Mockford drained a trey to keep Britain in the game.
However, Kanervo buried a three to extend Finland's lead to eight points with four minutes remaining, before a Mockford score from the Land of Plenty saw Britain cut the deficit to 77-73 going into the final minute.
With Britain forced to foul to stop the clock, the Finns proved cool at the line, and five from six free-throws saw them close out the victory.
