After on the road victories over the Worcester Wolves and the Marshall MK Lions at the weekend, GB's Andrew Sullivan's team the Newcastle Eagles move to joint top of the BBL Championship table alongside the Sheffield Sharks on 42 points. The Wolves put up a good fight on Saturday but it was the Eagles that came out on top 77-82, keeping them in striking distance of the top spot, with that position being realised following an explosive win against the Lions 87-101. GB Standard Life skipper, Sullivan, put in some exceptional shooting from beyond the arc and led the scoring for the Eagles with 25 points.
GB forward Pops Mensah Bonsu's team CSKA Moscow recorded a convincing home win on Saturday 75-55 over Krasnye Krylia in the second quarterfinal game of the Russian Cup, taking them through to the Final Four. Pops got 18 minutes of action, scoring nine points and five rebounds. CSKA are back on court tonight in the Euroleague ULEB away against Asseco Prokom.
Following two great victories on Friday and Saturday, Luol Deng and the Chicago Bulls (29-27) didn't quite manage to equal their season-high five-game winning streak after narrowly losing to the Washington Wizards on Monday night 101-95. Friday saw a closely contested win against Minnesota 100-94, while on Saturday the Bulls easily secured their fourth straight victory in five days beating the visiting Philadelphia 76ers 122-90. Deng scored a cumulative 41 points in the three games.
The Detroit Pistons went down against the Milwaukee Bucks 91-85 on Friday, but bounced back to claim an away win over the San Antonio Spurs 101-109. Ben Gordon came off the bench in both games to score four and 21 points respectively.
