Coached by the GB Standard Life U20 women's head coach Damian Jennings, UWIC defeated Leeds Met 85-83 in the Championship final. UWIC qualified for the Championships following a 10-0 group record, and they then breezed somewhat through the rounds, before beating London South Bank 77-66 in the semi finals.
In the States Bryan-Amaning's Huskies captured the Pac-10 Championship with a thrilling 79-75 come-from-behind win over top-seeded California at the Staples Center. The Huskies have a 24-9 overall record and have won 12 of their last 14 games, including the last seven.
The 11th seeded University of Washington team will now play sixth-seeded Marquette in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday 18 March. The winner faces the prospect of either third-seeded New Mexico or 14th-seeded Montana in the second round on Saturday.
Kansas is the top overall seed in the 65-team tournament. Kentucky is the second seed, Duke is third and Syracuse is seeded fourth. A total of 31 teams enter automatically, while 34 earn at-large invitations. The Huskies earned the Pac-10's automatic berth by virtue of its Pac-10 Tournament win.
There was also good news for Johannah Leedham, who poured in 25 points as the Ravens' downed Molloy 76-58 in the semi finals of the 2010 NCAA Division II East Regional. It was the Ravens' 30th win of the season and will now pit them against second-seeded Holy Family in the regional final.
Meanwhile back to pro-ball and in the ACB Unicaja still remain in playoff contention, despite losing 71-68 to Meridiano. Rob Archibald was in the starting five while Joel Freeland came off the bench to once again lead his team's boards with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds.
It was a better night for Dan Clark's Estudiantes who sit one position above seventh placed Unicaja. Clark recorded five minutes from the bench as Estudiantes overcame Caja Laboral 74-58.
