"From what I have heard and from what people have told me I think it is going to be a bigger squad so there"s definitely going to be a competition for places,"€ said Midgley.
"I know guys playing at college over in the States, that in college you improve year on year. There will be a lot of young guys stepping in, trying to take places off the older guys so it is very exciting for a player to be involved in the squad because we know how much they (British Basketball) are trying to develop the squad, especially with 2012 so it"s exciting times to be part of the programme.
"With the squad we have we still have to improve a lot but I think we can compete with anyone. We are just looking forward to the challenges this summer."€Â
The 24-year-old was also excited about the prospect of Chicago Bulls guard Ben Gordon joining the national team.
"It will be amazing. Just last year playing with Luol Deng it was so easy because he was so good. It was like pass the ball to him and he could create so much without having so much needed doing for him so I"m sure Ben Gordon is the same type of player."€Â
Midgley faces the prospect of playing against one of his former Cal teammates when Great Britain open their campaign against Israel on September 3.
