"It's as expected, it's tough to come in and lose three games at home but it's all a learning curve for us. Have to look at it, see the mistakes we made, and improve on it. We have a few more weeks before we go to Poland. If we look at it and see the things we done wrong, and improve it will have been worthwhile."
With Rob Archibald, Pops Mensah-Bonsu Andrew Sullivan and Andy Betts all set to return by the time Britain make their Eurobasket debut in Poland next month, Freeland grabbed the chance to play extended minutes for Team GB, and he acknowledged that it was an unusual situation for him:
"I felt that last year gave me a lot of confidence, and I tried to take it in my stride with the amount of playing time I got this year. It's been hard for me because I'm not used to playing this many minutes, but I need to be able to play them. I'm trying to take them and play as best as I can."
Realistically, Freeland can expect to see his court time drop when Britain have a full strength squad to pick from, but the 22-year-old is taking it all in his stride: "The coach is going to play the team that gives him the best chance of victory. I'm happy to play any role that I'm given so I'm not in any position to be saying that I should be playing more or playing less. I'm not like that, I'll get given minutes, and I'll do as much as I can in them."
Aldershot-born Freeland formed a good partnership with another youngster, Dan Clark, and he was impressed with the form shown by his team-mate: "I haven't seen him play over the last few as he's gone down to the LEB [second division] in Spain, so when he came back to camp I was really impressed with him and I felt he stepped up this weekend as well."
Freeland plays his club basketball for Malaga, Spain, and he is looking forward to Britain's next set of games which see GB fly to Seville to face hosts Spain, Lithuania and Slovenia.
"It's going to huge" he said "They [Spain] are a great team. But, like every team, we should be ready to step up against them. I feel like a lot of our guys play better when they are up against bigger and better players. I know from a personal standpoint that I do, so although it'll obviously be a hard test, everyone will be up for the challenge."
