Led by another monster double-double from Pops Mensah-Bonsu, Britain were 37-22 up at half-time, but needed free-throws from Mensah-Bonsu and Luol Deng down the stretch to seal the win after Adam Henga had tied the score at 64 going into the final minute.
Veteran guard Nate Reinking again showed why he is still on the international scene at the age of 36 as he led GB with 17 points, adding five rebounds.
Mensah-Bonsu finished with 15 points and 17 rebounds, while Deng had 13 points, four boards and as many assists for GB who are the only unbeaten team in the competition. Dan Clark also continues to impress with eight points and three rebounds.
Péter Lórant led the Hungarians with 17 points and 11 rebounds, with Akos Horvath adding 14 and Marton Fodor 10. Leading scorer Hanga was kept quiet all evening, finishing with seven points on a two-from-nine shooting performance.
With FYR Macedonia defeating Ukraine 71-55 tonight, GB are still one win clear at the top of Group B, and are now assured of a place in the top two.
Reinking opened the scoring for Britain as he drained from the Land of Plenty, and Deng added a jump shot as Britain rushed into a 5-0 lead.
That lead had grown to 17-9 when Mensah-Bonsu drove to the basket with two minutes of the period remaining, and Eric Boateng's first points of the competition sent them into the first break 19-11.
Ogo Adegboye scored seven of the first ten GB points of the second period, Deng hitting a trey to split them, as GB's lead grew to 28-12 after just over three minutes of action, and a Reinking free-throw saw them go into the locker room 37-22 up at half-time.
Hungary opened the second half with a 7-2 run, but a Mensah-Bonsu jump-shot kept Chris Finch's team ahead at the five minute mark at 46-34.
Four straight Fodor points cut the lead to eight before Horvath hit a three to make it a five point game, but treys from Flinder Boyd and Clark calmed the nerves, and Mensah-Bonsu sent them into the final break with a 58-47 lead.
Gergely Toth cut that lead to ten with a free-throw to open the final stanza, but there was no sign of the drama to come as Reinking sunk a trey to make it a 13 point game and he followed it up with a driving lay-up to put Britain 63-48 after a minute's play.
However, Hungary then hit 13 unanswered points, including a Horvath lay-up and capped by Molnar's put-back as they made it 63-61 with 2:44 on the clock.
Deng finally ended a seven minute drought with a single free-throw, but Hanga tied things up with a trey on the break.
That proved to be the last time the visitors would score, and Toth's foul on Mensah-Bonsu saw the Londoner hit one of two from the line and after Deng had blocked Hanga's lay-up the Chicago Bulls star was sent to the foul line where he also sunk a single shot to make it 66-64 going into the final 12 seconds.
Hanga had one effort to tie the score, but it rimmed out and Mensah-Bonsu grabbed the rebound to move his team another step closer to Lithuania 2011.
GB Head Coach, Chris Finch said after the game: "We were fortunate to get out of here with a win tonight. We've got a few days to work on stuff prior to the game in Macedonia.
"I thought Eric was very good tonight in his minutes and I thought Pops was outstanding, he was carrying us at times and Nate was good early. I thought the key tonight was Pops' rebounds, they won us the game."
