Bulls' coach Tom Thibodeau has said he expects Deng to be "out for a while," and described Deng as "week to week" and no surgery planned, but an option.
Deng has remained positive since the injury, Tweeting his followers: "Thank you all for your concern. I'm doing well, taking it day by day. I look forward to getting back as soon as I can. #Alwayspositive"
Deng suffered a similar injury in the 2004-05 NBA season on his right wrist for which he underwent surgery however this time Deng feels confident he can handle the injury after speaking with doctors who treated him then: "I know it's a bad injury, and it sounds terrible, but I'll be fine.
"This time around I'm familiar with it. It's on my left [wrist] which is not like having it on my right. I know how it feels pain-wise. Just trying to get it down to a certain level where I can play again.
"I really feel like we have a very good chance of doing something special. And I feel like without the surgery I'll be fine. I just know what I can do with it and what I can't do. And I really think I'm going to be very effective out there. There's going to be days when it's sore. But as soon as I can be out there, I will be out there."
British Basketball's Performance Director, Chris Spice commented on Deng's injury and how this will impact Deng in this year's Olympic Games: "We are obviously monitoring the situation with Luol very closely and at this point it looks as though surgery to his wrist is not necessary. We are here to help in any way possible and we wish him well in his recovery."
